Describing a place

4 Big TVs- allows people to watch TV and enjoy their meal at the same time
3 small TVs- more convenient; tells multiple people to see whats being served today
2 main entrances- allows for easier entrance and exit of student
4 main doors for kitchen - because once you are in the main entrance and not passing buy, you must be definitely getting food.
2 cash registers- so people can spend more time eating there food then waiting in line
6 booths- for people who don't want to be bothered on a table or maybe they're hiding
15 tall 2 man tables- been stopping teams from awkwardly having to split up into 4- 4 man tabled and having to pick who they want to sit with
colorful low lighting- enough to see your food, but not enough to make it feel like your being innterigated.
21- 4 man tables. because not everyone comes in with 10 friends to eat with every day.
10- long, short rectangle tables - contradicts the post above.

How I succeeded to fail at drawing.

After watching the short video about the comedian who was basically told to reevaluate his life because comedy wasn't for him, I realized that there were a few times that I've had my "magical black man" tell me not to continue on also. The first I can easily remember was when I was in high school. Going in freshman year, I really wanted to learn how to draw well. I figured if I took a drawing class once a semester for 8 semesters, by the end of senior year ill practically be an artist! By the end of my sophomore year, I started to realize that drawing just wasn't for me. My drawing teacher knew my work wasn't improving, but realized I was putting in the effort. After trying to help me over and over for the first 2 years in art, she decided to redirect me in the art world instead of just directly telling me "you suck at drawing". I had a passion for colors and others' artwork, but mine just never came out looking how I liked. She told me to try a more hands on approach and try ceramics; and the next year I did. Ceramics allowed free my mind of all the objects I wanted to create by allowing me to physically form them with clay, as drawing wasn't my strong point. I still thanked my drawing teacher even a year after not seeing her, for being my "magical black man" (I didn't exactly say that word for word) and giving me her honest opinion and realizing that it wasn't working out in the drawing world. Instead of giving up complete hope, she redirected me to something that was still in the art field which I soon learned I really enjoyed. Overall, I accepted the fact I stink at drawing, but managed to pick up a new talent of pottery and sculpting on the way.

Birmingham city Jail Excerpts

"My friends, I must say to you that we have not made a single gain in civil rights without determined legal and nonviolent pressure. Lamentably, it is an historical fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily. Individuals may see the moral light and voluntarily give up their unjust posture; but, as Reinhold Niebuhr has reminded us, groups tend to be more immoral than individuals."

" My friends, I must say to you that we have not made a single gain in civil rights without legal and nonviolent pressure. History is the long and tragic story of the fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily. Individuals may see the moral light and give up their unjust posture; but as Reinhold Niebuhr has reminded us, groups are more immoral than individuals.

I chose this passage because the final quote just stood out to me. MLK Jr, is just so concise and peaceful when going about his letter. He seems very passive to the white people and reminds them that "groups are more immoral than individuals" in hopes that the people will realize that when they are in a group, they do things that they would not do alone. When in a group, they can sometimes become animals as they feel that they are unstoppable, as morals are forgotten. He also talks about how he is still fighting for his rights, and how the white man will not let go of there "privileges". He uses the word privilege almost as a way to make the white people realize that maybe instead of resisting, they should realize that change has arrived and that there "privileges" were only privileges and never a right. He goes on to show that African Americans are struggling to make movement and that they are forced to use legal and nonviolence pressure to make any gain, which just seems like a shame. All they want is equal rights and the fact that they have to legally and nonviolently pressure people into giving them up is disgusting and that they should think more morally.

Examples from the Declaration of independence

Simple-  Nor have we been wanting attentions to our Brittish brethren.
Compound- For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
Complex sentence- He has refused his Asset to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
Compound Complex- We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we conjured them by the tics of our common kindred to disavow these usurpation, which, would inevitable interrupt our connections and correspondence.

Final Performance Review

I believe that in should earn a 94% percent in college writing one. I feel that I did really well and participated in class, but no matter how hard someone tries in class, it is very very rare that they give 100% of their efforts, otherwise they would have a 100% in the class.
I am basing my grade on not only my actual grade in the course (94.2%), but the 6 other topics in the review sheet.

  1. I feel that out of all 6 topics, knowledge and learning was my lowest. I was able to do everything except once in a while, when reading Rewriting for homework, I wouldn't comprehend what I read.
  2. In preparation and in-class performance - I only did not come to class prepared with my Rewriting book one day, and have always tried to participate and answer at least 1 of your questions a day to show that I am actually paying attention, but at the same time do not seem like a teachers pet to the rest of the class.
  3. In the topic of attendance and participation - I have showed up to class every single day including the first (even though I only came in the last 5 minutes), and participated (part of prep and class performance review)
  4.  In the topic of teamwork and interpersonal skills-   I have always would stay quiet in class and listen, and even encourage Ray and Adam to quiet down here and there. I would always work with others efficiently and I have gave you my full respect, just as you have to me.
  5. In the topic of problem solving and decision making - I was able to work independently, but would often seek help from others in class to make sure I was doing the assignments correctly (a small fear of mine is to show up and have done the assignment completely wrong and be yelled at) so I always would double check. I also built upon others ideas and helped them with what they should be doing for homework and papers for example, how to stay on topic and what the papers formatting should look like.
  6.  In the topic of Lewis University Mission - I feel as if I did nothing to disrespect anyone in our College writing 1 community and that I have truly showed improvement in the class from the first paper I sent in to the last.
With all of these ideas in mind, I feel as if I have achieved an A in the class, and would like to thank you for encouraging me to come visit you during office hours as it has really helped me with my papers, even though it only took 10 minutes. Have a good rest of the year!
